The most crucial part of throwing a surprise party is the planning! First thing’s first though, you need to be familiar with that person’s favourite hobbies, likes/dislikes, personality, etc.
Gather a couple of your closest friends or family members who can give you a lending hand. You should get together and brainstorm some ideas on the date, time, venue and the theme of the party. Upon planning the date, time and venue you should also know the person’s schedule well in order to set a good time and to avoid mishaps.
You should think of the best party theme first. From there, you should be able to come up with the games, set up ideas, decoration of the cake, photo booth and so on, that will complement the theme. Do your homework and search for ideas online or in magazines. It is not every day that you throw a surprise party for someone meaningful to you, and now that you are, you might as well do it properly and make it the best party yet.
Making a guest list and invitations are quite essential if you want this party to be closed and personal. We wouldn’t want any party crashers do we now? Send out invitations via online or by face to face, if you prefer you can always go old school and hand out card invitations.
One week before the party, you should have already confirmed the menu, made the order for the cake, and start DIY-ing any decorations or the party favors (door gifts). Then 2 to 3 days before the party, the ‘culprit’ who is going to be the one to distract the victim of surprise should be elected. His/her role is very important because he/she is responsible for planning how to get the victim of surprise into the room.
On the day of the party, run through your checklists and check if everything is going to plan.
